Knight Foundation Awards Fountainhead Arts a Total of $454,000 to Support Its Future

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - December 5, 2022 - Miami, FL. On November 28, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation announced it would award $444,000 to Fountainhead Arts as part of a multi-year investment strategy to make art general in Miami. Recognizing Fountainhead's role in Miami's evolution into a thriving global arts city, the Knight Foundation's investment will help Fountainhead research and implement a digital community for Residency alumni and Miami-based artists to access mentorship, resources, and opportunities.

Knight’s 2022 arts investments in Miami are situated at the intersection of art and technology. By funding the application of technology to the creation, dissemination and experience of art, Knight seeks to support artists and institutions as they use new tools to attract, retain and grow audiences.

“Art and culture connect people to place and to each other,” Knight Foundation president Alberto Ibargüen said. “We have supported local artists and institutions who have built a Miami where art thrives,” he added.

“Fountainhead is honored to be among 21 arts organizations receiving multi-year support from Knight,” says Kathryn Mikesell, Fountainhead’s co-founder and executive director. “Knight has supported our mission since the beginning, and I am so thankful to Alberto, Victoria, Jennifer, and the entire team at Knight that does this important and necessary work.”

In addition, Fountainhead is thrilled to announce it was awarded an additional $10,000 as part of the Knight Arts Champion initiative, which asks a selected local Arts Champion to choose a local artist, activist, or arts organization to receive a $10,000 unrestricted grant. We are beyond honored that Melissa Wallen, the director of the de la Cruz Collection and a 2022 Knight Arts Champion, chose Fountainhead as her organization of choice.

Fountainhead will begin an in-depth research and assessment regarding its new digital program in 2023. For press inquiries and to learn more, contact Nicole Martinez, Associate Director at nicole@fountainheadarts.org or 305-450-0414.
