Fountainhead members are invited to tour the newly opened Museum of Sex in Miami.
When the Museum of Sex first emerged on New York City’s Fifth Avenue on October 5, 2002, it was without precedent in the museum world. After over two decades of critically acclaimed programming in New York, The Museum of Sex has opened it's second location in the Magic City.
The Museum’s permanent collection of over 20,000 artifacts is comprised of works of art, photography, clothing and costumes, technological inventions and historical ephemera. The Museum of Sex preserves an ever-growing collection of sexually related objects that would otherwise be destroyed and discarded due to their sexual content.
Join us for a tour of the museum's collection as well as its current exhibition Hajime Sorayama: Desire Machines. In 1980, on the heels of the unprecedented success of the film Star Wars, Hajime Sorayama’s first robot pin-up was commissioned by a Japanese whiskey company requesting a sexy female character loosely based on C-3P0. Four decades and dozens of commissions, collaborations, books, exhibitions, and awards later, the Japanese artist and illustrator has produced an unparalleled body of erotic artwork, blurring the boundaries between realism and fantasy, flesh and metal, and the human and non-human.
In this first presentation of his work at the Museum of Sex, Sorayama’s playful embrace of duality is on full display. His figures are both provocatively hybrid and culturally promiscuous, incorporating references from East and West, past and present, and classical art and pop culture. His painting style is itself a study in contrasts, combining traditional Japanese brushwork with an original airbrush technique to achieve a super-realistic style for even the most otherworldly scenarios.
The Fountainhead Experience membership program is for those who want to see the world differently and develop intimate relationships with artists and art appreciators. This season, Fountainhead members will be immersed in the local landscape, with behind-the-scenes tours of private collections, artist-led experiences, and more.
