Omar Mendoza is a Mexican artist whose practice investigates the cultural and historical origins of color through the material histories of pigment-making in Mexico and Mesoamerica. Working with pigments derived from plants, minerals, and other natural materials, his paintings explore color as a living archive of territory, memory, and ancestral knowledge. Mendoza received a B.A. in Visual Arts from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). He has presented solo exhibitions at Steve Turner, Los Angeles; Povos Gallery, Chicago; and the Xalapa Anthropology Museum, Mexico. His work has been featured in exhibitions across Mexico and the United States, and he has participated in residencies including Skowhegan, Oak Spring Garden Foundation, and A Studio in the Woods.
