With its Closing, Fountainhead Studios Celebrates Nearly 15 Years of Providing Affordable Space for Local Artists

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - October 11, 2022 - Miami, FL. Local arts organization Fountainhead Arts announces the closing of Fountainhead Studios, its Little Haiti-based artist studio complex providing affordable space to nearly 30 local artists. To celebrate the community we built together and raise money for the Fountainhead Studios artists, Fountainhead will host a final Open Studios at the Studios complex (7338 NW Miami Ct.) on Saturday, November 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm; the Open Studios event will be followed by an after party at Low Key Miami (7127 NW 2nd Ave) from 7:00 to 10:00pm. Tickets will start at $28 and reach up to $1,120, and includes free wine and beer sponsored by Gerard Bertrand and Estrella Damm; all proceeds raised from the event will be distributed evenly among the Fountainhead Studios artists.  During the Farewell Celebration, Fountainhead Studios artists will make artworks available for sale and we encourage all who attend to help clean out their studios and beautify their walls with new artworks. Tickets may be purchased here.

Founded in 2008, Fountainhead Studios’ mission was to build a community of artists who support one another and offer flexible, affordable studios with no term limits to local artists. Many of the artists working at Fountainhead Studios have been there for 10+ years.

Kathryn Mikesell, co-founder and Executive Director of Fountainhead Arts, is proud to have supported local artists with affordable space for nearly 15 years.  “We know that affordable studio space for artists remains critical in Miami’s ever-evolving real estate ecosystem, and we encourage our local government and organizational partners to continue to find solutions for supporting artists in this realm. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have ideas and solutions you want to discuss.”

Fountainhead Arts will continue to operate its renowned artist residency program out of its Morningside home, which welcomes 33 national and international artists to live and work in Miami during a month-long residency program each year. It will also continue to support local artists with its seminal program Artists Open, an annual countywide open studios event that welcomes the public into over 300 local artists’ studios all over Miami for one day only.
